Darrell Hopkins

School Year: Freshman
Position: Center
Height: 6'7
Hometown: Mich. City

Major: Undecided

School: Michigan City High School

“‘D’ has a great upside here at Bethel. The quality that stands out with Darrell is his work ethic. He has the knack of getting his hands on the ball. Despite only playing one year of high school basketball, we see a bright future for Darrell because of his constant desire to improve.

It will be fun to see how much he improves here at Bethel. I think he is a sleeper for us and fans and opponents alike will be surprised. Both Coach Buscher from Michigan City and I agree that his best days as a basketball player will come after high school graduation. He will continue to improve his skills and become a complete player for us.

“We are excited to have Darrell. We see some similar characteristics in his play as we did in William Walker in high school.” -Coach Lightfoot

At Michigan City High School

Darrell played for Head Coach Bob Buscher at Michigan City High School in Michigan City, Indiana. In one varsity season, the Wolves won 3 games and lost 18 with Darrell, including a double overtime heartbreaker in the sectional opener.

Last season, Darrell averaged 14 points and 9 rebounds for the Wolves. He earned All-Conference honors in the Duneland Athletic Conference. Darrell was also a member of the Wolves his junior season in 2007-08, but was sidelined for the year with a dislocated knee.
